iPod Classic Mod & Repair Services

From a simple battery swap to a full Classic Connect 2 build, we handle the complete range of iPod Classic work. You supply the iPod — we supply the expertise and components.

Most popular mod

SSD Upgrade

Replace the aging spinning hard drive with a modern flash storage solution using iFlash adapters. No more skipping, near-instant load times, and massively extended battery life. Capacities from 64GB up to 1TB+ depending on your generation and firmware.

Currently building

Classic Connect 2

Bluetooth audio streaming for your iPod Classic. The Classic Connect 2 module replaces the HDD bay and adds wireless output while simultaneously serving as your SSD upgrade. Compatible with specific generations — call to confirm yours.

Battery Replacement

Original iPod Classic batteries are 15–20 years old. A fresh battery combined with an SSD upgrade transforms the listening experience — most modded iPods with a new battery run 20–40+ hours per charge.

Click Wheel & Screen Repair

Unresponsive click wheel, dead zones, or a cracked/dim LCD? We replace click wheels and screens on all Classic generations to bring your iPod back to full working condition before or alongside any mod work.

RockBox Installation

Open-source firmware that unlocks your iPod's full potential — removes the 128GB storage cap on 6th and 7th gen models, adds FLAC and OGG support, equalizer, and deep customization. Required for large capacity builds on later Classics.

Full service

Complete Custom Build

The full treatment — SSD upgrade, new battery, RockBox (if needed), click wheel check, and optional Classic Connect 2 Bluetooth. We walk you through every option upfront so you get exactly the build you want.

Honest pricing, no surprises. iPod Classic mods are specialist work and are priced accordingly — components like iFlash adapters, high-capacity storage cards, and Classic Connect 2 modules are premium parts. A basic SSD + battery build starts in the mid-range; full builds with Classic Connect 2 are at the higher end. We give you a complete quote before any work starts. Call or text (303) 630-9499 with your generation and what you're looking for.

Generation Guide — What's Possible on Your Model

Not all iPod Classics are created equal. The mod options and firmware limitations vary significantly by generation. Here's what you need to know before calling.

6th Gen Classic Common
80GB and 160GB (thick) models (2007). Solid platform for SSD mods. Uses iFlash adapters well. Important: the 6th gen has a 128GB recognition limit under the original Apple OS — anything larger requires RockBox to work correctly.
⚠ 128GB cap on Apple OS · RockBox needed for larger builds
6.5th Gen Classic Common
120GB model (2008). Same iFlash compatibility as 6th gen. Same 128GB firmware limit applies under Apple OS. RockBox installation unlocks full capacity potential.
⚠ 128GB cap on Apple OS · RockBox needed for larger builds
7th Gen Classic Most Common
160GB (thin) model (2009–2014) — the last iPod Classic ever made. Most abundant and widely modded. Handles large capacity iFlash builds natively under the Apple OS — no RockBox required for high storage builds. RockBox is still an option for those wanting FLAC support and deeper customization.
✓ Large capacity iFlash native · No storage cap · RockBox optional
1st–4th Gen iPod Older
Original through Photo/Color models (2001–2005). We still work on these — battery replacements and some SSD options are available. Call or text to discuss what's possible for your specific model.

RockBox — Do You Need It?

RockBox is open-source firmware that replaces the Apple iPod operating system. It's not required for every build — but for 6th and 7th gen Classics with large storage, it's the right call.

When RockBox is the right choice

RockBox gives you:

  • Removes the 128GB storage cap on 6th gen Classics running Apple OS
  • FLAC, OGG, WAV, and other lossless format support
  • Parametric EQ and audio DSP tools
  • Deep UI customization with themes
  • Gapless playback on all formats
  • Active open-source community and ongoing updates

Trade-offs to know:

  • Different interface — takes some getting used to vs Apple OS
  • iTunes sync works differently (drag and drop instead)
  • Some prefer the original Apple iPod UI — RockBox can dual-boot if preferred
  • Not required on 5th/5.5th gen or 7th gen — those handle large builds natively

iPod Classic Mod FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most from the iPod Classic community.

Yes — we perform iPod Classic SSD upgrades using iFlash adapters for all generations. You bring your iPod, we supply the components and do the work. Call or text (303) 630-9499 with your generation for a quote.
The Classic Connect 2 is a hardware module that adds Bluetooth 5.0 audio streaming to an iPod Classic. It installs in the hard drive bay, simultaneously replacing the spinning HDD with flash storage. The result is an iPod Classic that streams wirelessly to your Bluetooth headphones and speakers — something Apple never built in. We are currently performing Classic Connect 2 installations in Denver.
The 5.5th gen (late 2006, 30GB and 80GB) features the Wolfson WM8758 DAC — an audio chip audiophiles prize for its warm, detailed sound signature. Apple replaced it with a less-regarded chip in the 6th gen onward. When paired with an iFlash SSD and a new battery, a 5.5th gen becomes a modern high-fidelity music player that competes with dedicated DAPs costing far more. It also has no firmware storage cap, so large iFlash builds run natively under the Apple OS without RockBox.
It depends on your generation and storage goals. 5th, 5.5th gen, and 7th gen iPods handle large capacity iFlash builds natively — no firmware cap, no RockBox required for storage. 6th gen Classics (80GB and 120GB models) have a 128GB cap under the original Apple OS — if you want more storage than that on a 6th gen, RockBox is the solution. RockBox also adds FLAC and OGG support, advanced EQ, and deep customization on any generation. We install and configure it as part of the build process when needed.
Yes — you bring your own iPod Classic. We supply the iFlash adapters, storage cards, batteries, and any other components needed for your specific build. If you're not sure which generation you have, bring it in and we'll identify it.
A basic SSD + battery build is often same-day when components are available. More complex builds including Classic Connect 2 installation may take longer depending on the work involved. We'll give you a realistic timeframe when you call for a quote. Call or text (303) 630-9499 to get started.
